British Handmade Wooden Grab Rail | Steam-Bent Oak, Ash & Walnut | Indoor
Designed with strength, style, and simplicity in mind. Whether fitted beside the front door, at the top of the stairs, or next to the toilet, these handmade British grab rails provide the subtle support you need without turning your home into a clinic. They are solid, comfortable to hold, and beautiful enough to match your furniture.
For elderly family members or anyone who needs a little extra support around the home, these rails offer genuine peace of mind - without the cold, clinical look of a plastic handle.
To make a truly strong wooden rail, you cannot just cut a curve out of a block of wood - this would create weak points. Instead, these rails are steam-bent, a method traditional boat builders have used for generations. By steaming the wood, we can bend it so the grain structure remains continuous from end to end. This stops the wood's natural spring and creates a handle that is exceptionally strong.
Every piece is unique, made by hand in a workshop on the UK's South Coast.
Sizes: Available in 300mm, 400mm, 500mm, and 600mm lengths.
Wood options: Oak, Ash, Walnut, 2-tone (Walnut/Ash), 3-tone (Walnut/Oak/Ash), London Plane, or White painted.
Screw fitting: Choose between exposed brass screws for a traditional look, or wood plug covers for a cleaner finish. Two fixings at each end.
If you would like the outdoor version of these wooden grab rails - finished with 5 coats of Epiphanes yacht varnish for year-round outdoor use - please see this listing.
Please note: As these are made from natural timber, the grain and colour may vary slightly from the photos. Each rail is a unique piece of craftsmanship.Â

Fantastic thank you
Ordered for my elderly aunt. She was nervous about having a grab rail because she thought it would make her house look like a nursing home, but she actually loves this one! Says it feels warm to hold unlike metal railings on frosty mornings.
The product is superb and the customer service excellent
We live in a listed barn conversion so we couldnt put anything that looked modern or institutional on the exterior walls. This blends in so naturally you hardly notice it until you need it. rock solid when pulling yourself up the threshold step.
Wood is lovely quality and varnished well. Instructions could be clearer on drill bit size needed for the supplied plugs but if you do basic DIY you'll figure it out in 2 minutes.
Bought two for the garden steps. Look fantastic against the timber fence and gives my mum the confidence to get down to the lawn on her own now. Very happy with the purchase.
Was hesitating at the price tag initially for just a hand rail, but holding it you can tell it's well crafted timber not cheap laminate. Fitted by back patio doors. Only niggle is the clearance behind the bar is slightly snug if you have massive hands with thick winter gloves on, but for bare hands its spot on.
Does the job and looks smart on red brick. nice smooth finish on the timber so no splinters or rough edges to worry about.
really pleased with it. Wood finish has held up well to the torrential rain we had last month. Knocked one star off because DPD just left the box leaned against the wheelie bin in full view of the road.
Got this put up by our front doorstep for my dad when he visits. refused to have one of those awful white plastic NHS looking rails outside the cottage so this was ideal. lovely bit of oak feels proper solid. The rawl plugs in the packet went straight in the bin though, husband used proper masonry anchors instead as our stone walls are very uneven.
The rails are great and doing a good job
I have actively used both yesterday and today and even used external one to access house using my weaker left hand and it worked well, as well as being good with the right. So, all v good in practice
I want to get back to you to tell you how absolutely gorgeous our wooden rails are. They are an exquisite work of art. The professional workmanship is impeccable. Thank you for being the best of your trade. We will admire them the rest of our lives.
